Born in Moscow in 1938. In 1950 he enters the Moscow Secondary Art School from which he graduates in 1956. In 1957 admitted as a student to the Arts Department of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute where he studied painting under E.Belyutin. He graduates in 1962. Vladimir Yankilevsky participated in the Belyutin Studio exhibition and celebrated Manege exhibition in 1962. He worked closely with sculptor Ernst Neizvestny and mounted a joint exhibition in Moscow University. He participates in numerous exhibitions in Czechoslovakia, Poland and Italy. In 1967 Prague National Gallery acquires several of his works and in 1968 the State Dresden Gallery acquires a series of etchings and drawings. Many more to follow including the Tretyakov Gallery and Musee national d’art moderne (Center Georges Pompidou). Today, Vladimir Yankilevsky’s works can be found in The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), the State Russian Museum, The State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Moscow), Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University (USA) and many other most prestigious public and private collections in Russia, USA and Europe. In the year 2007alone, he had two solo exhibitions, one in the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg and another in the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, Moscow.
