Piotr Konchalovsky – Ðainter and theatre designer. He was born in Slaviansk (Kharkov province). In 1889, the Konchalovskies moved to Moscow and their house became a part of the Moscow art scene of 1890s. Their house was often visited by Valentin Serov, Mikhail Vrubel, Vasily Surikov. Later, Pyotr married a daughter of Vasily Surikov, who always praised the art of his son-in-law. During his gymnasium years Konchalovsky attended classes of Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1896-1898 he traveled to Paris and studied at the Juliet Academy. In 1899, he returned to Russia and entered the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, graduating in 1907. At the Academy, he studied under Savinsky, Zaleman and Kovalevsky.   From 1908 the artist has become a member of assorted groups and participated in exhibitions, including the World of Art, the Golden Fleece, Union of Youth, Jack of Diamonds, Being, AKhRR and exhibitions in Paris. Konchalovsky was the founder and president of the Jack of Diamonds group from 1910. In 1918–1921 he has taught at SVOMAS (Free Workshop) and in 1926 –1929 in the  VKhUTEMAS/VKhUTEIN (High State Art and Technical Workshops / High State Art Technical Institute). In 1922 , he had his first solo exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery. He has held one-man shows in Moscow (1927 -1930) and Paris (1925 ). His works can be found in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), The Russian Museum, (St.Petersburg) and many other museum collections of Russia and around the world.
